Happy Birthday White Album

If I were to pick a soundtrack of my youth The White Album would be it. My childhood best friends, sisters of musician parents, had the complete Beatles collection on original record. Our favorite album hands down was the White Album. When my peers were listening to New Kids On The Block and MC Hammer, I knew all the words to all of the songs on The White Album. The White Album was one of the first cd's that I imported into my mp3 collection, and always lives on my iPod and iTunes libraries. Little Piggies was always a favorite, I usually skip the first track Back In The U.S.S.R. (never been a favorite, although maybe I will give it a try again). And Good Night has always been a relaxing song to drift to sleep to (I have even been known to hum it to myself to help relax myself for sleep).

Apparently The White Album celebrated its 40 birthday last week. "Happy Birthday To You!"

A little trivia about SJ, I was born on the same day that John Lennon was shot, maybe this explains my lifelong love for the Beatles.

Enjoy ~SJ

My favorite Spinal Tap album is the "Black Album" when Nigel first saw the album he asked "How much more black can it be?" and then he and David answered in unison "None more black"................I know ......random........but I love that movie.....

Blacker than black...

I remember the day Lennon was shot (or the day you were born, depending on the story being told). I was sick from school, and the Today Show was all about this murder. I was sitting on the couch, wrapped in a blanket, mom heading down the hall. "What's the big deal about this guy?" She stopped in her tracks; how was I supposed to know? I was only 10.

More random facts: WB's nephew was born 13 years after you.

There was a pretty cool program on MPBN today, called the White Album Listening Party. They broke down most of the tracks quite knowledgeably, and played most of them. My parents are not Beatles people, so I came late to the Beatles party. Though I'm more a "She Loves You"/"I Wanna Hold Your Hand" kind of guy, they did some amazing stuff on the White Album. Personal faves: "I Would" and "I'm So Tired".

The "Revolution"s are great, and of course "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" (I'm also a Harrison kind of guy) are other highlights.

I love Clapton's guitar on "...Guitar..." The sustain is amazing. (That was for KL).

Thanks Dave I love that song too, I also like George's solo on "Something" - it's one of the perfect melodic musical statements in rock...(in my humble opinion)
