Skywatch!

Happy Skywatch Friday! Like so many other Skywatch posters, we just can't take another snowy scene posting. This is a picture that I took last spring from the side mirror of my scooter. When I rode the scooter I spent so much time looking in my side mirror for cars that needed to pass me I decided one day to pull over and take a picture of the view. The scooter, seen below, was 49 cc Honda Metropolitan, with a top speed of 42 mph. It got over 100 mph, it has since been sold to upgrade to a "real" motorcycle. With all of the snow that we have been getting in Maine, I keep dreaming of the day when the bike can come out again. Enjoy ~SJ

This Is For You Meg-O

My childhood best friend, her husband, and I all drive Honda Metropolitan scooters. This fall we drove them from Bangor to Bar Harbor and back. After having a nice lunch in Bar Harbor we went for a little scenic ride around Mount Desert Island. At one of the many scenic vistas we parked the scooters and enjoyed the view. We wanted to have our picture taken with the scooters, but no one came along to snap the photo for us. So instead I took a picture of the scooters enjoying the scenic vista, I think it is much funnier than having us in the picture.
Since this ride we have been toying with making a "scooter gang" and calling ourselves Heck's Angles. I think that the New Yorker this morning is mocking us.

If we only drove Vespas.....

1000!

The scooter has officially traveled over 1000 miles! I went on a "long" trip around Worthley Pond and up and around Weld Lake. On the way back through Carthage, at the "Welcome to Carthage" sign the scooter rolled over 1000 miles. I was hoping it might have happened at a more scenic place, such as the top of hill looking out over Weld Lake. But then again, it is a rather unique "welcome" sign, complete with a huge blade from a saw mill!

A Surprise Gift

We Simmons Gals like to celebrate every type of milestone in life - sometimes it is a simple little phone call/email, a joint gift from all, or a full blown party - complete with Sangria! About a week ago I came home from another long day at school so find a package in my mailbox. I quickly checked the return address and read "Simmons Girls Central", I immediately know it could only mean one thing - surprise present for SJ from my most wonderful college friends! I hurried into the house, tore open the package and found a gift wrapped present with a note "Congratulations on your recent master's degree!" My immediate thought was "Wow, how sweet of them to get me a present!" I tore the paper off and found a box of note cards, but not any note card, personalized scooter SJ note cards! I started to smile and laugh to myself as I quickly dialed the Simmons Gals numbers (of course they were all at work still), so I thought to myself, "I will send them all thank you notes using the new cards", nice thought but still on the to do list. So Simmons Gals, take this as my unofficial thank you! Your gift made me smile, and the framed card sitting on my windowsill reminds me every morning to have fun in life! Thanks for your never ending support! Official note of thanks will be in the mail at some point in the near future.

The View From Behind

When I ride my scooter, I spend a lot of the drive looking behind me in case a vehicle comes and I need to move over. The view from the rear view mirror can be impressive at times, and I have always thought that it would make a great picture. Well, today when I was out for a little scoot ride I tried to take one of these pictures. I got a little bit of my sleeve in the picture, guess I will just have to keep on trying.

Outrageous!

Gas prices have reached an all new outrageous high! Over $80 for about 22 gallons of gas! All the more reason to ride the scooter when I can.

Conant Lake

So while on my first scooter ride of the season I went for a little drive past Conant farm to take in the views of the newest swimming hole in Canton, Conant Lake.

After enjoying the views I scooted over to D.U. to get my one gallon of gas for the scooter. I went all out for my little hot rod and got the high grade gas! At over 100 miles per gallon I can really splurge!
